Background
Two of the core outcomes of the review process are a performance rating and a set of performance messages for every Employee. WorkfoceWins works behind the scenes to help Supervisors to develop the rating and messages that they feel best suit every one of their direct reports. Messages are designed to provide meaningful, balanced and focused feedback. To this end, the typical set of messages for a given Employee is made up of 2 to 4 'things to continue' and 2 to 4 'things to do differently.'
Comments are Critical
While there is value in the ratings that you provide for each competency, the real value is in the comments that you add to support your ratings. We know that comments can be hard to generate. Use the Writing Assistant embedded in the form to find the words that fit your thoughts and feelings. Then consider tuning them up to fit your needs and adding examples in support.
The Focussed Feedback Method
Your feedback can be structured to help us generate the message themes ('things to continue' and 'things to do differently.'). As seen in the graphic below, it is very helpful if you focus your ratings and associated messages on the form that represents stronger areas for performance (things to continue) and areas for improvement (things to do differently.) It also saves a lot of time compared to adding comments to every competency!
